ENGLISH/Department Leadership

Alex is English Team Leader at Ivybridge Community College and has been in this role for seven years.  She leads a large team of 21 teachers.  The department was deemed outstanding in all areas in an Ofsted Subject Inspection in March 2011.

Alex is also an accredited facilitator for the Improving Teacher and Outstanding Teacher Programmes.

Prior to moving to Devon, Alex worked in schools in Northamptonshire.


Ruth is Head of Teaching and Learning at Charleton Primary School – part of the Kingsbridge Area Federation.  She is a Key Stage 1 and Early Years Specialist.  She has been the subject leader for Maths across the Federation for 4 years and is a Maths AST.  She is also the Lead Maths teacher in a project to develop Maths teaching across all the Kingsbridge Learning Community Primary Schools.


Cheryl George is an Assistant Principal and the SENCO at Dawlish Community College. She has a considerable amount of SEND experience in five different secondary schools and also the experience of working in a secondary school in Special Measures with SEND as a key issue. She has also worked on a primary advisory team and a part of her AP work at Dawlish Community College is the transition between primary and secondary school. She line-manages the pastoral team at the college and is Designated Teacher for the small number of students designated CiC.  Her Leadership Team role and experience of managing and leading large teams of support staff and smaller teams of teaching staff really helps with the understanding of issues like performance data and finance and gives her a good awareness of whole college issues and national issues.  She was designated as an SLE for the SWTSA in March 2013 and is currently working on the development of the SEND Mini-Hubs with colleagues across the Alliance.


Dragica Marsh has been Head of Modern Foreign Languages at Kingsbridge Community College for the last eight years.  She also leads the College’s International School Activities.  She has been instrumental in revitalising the Languages Department at Kingsbridge.  Well over 70% of students now take Languages at GCSE.



Tom is currently a teacher of Mathematics at Ivybridge Community College and has been working as an AST for the past seven years.  He has worked closely with the Mathematics Advisory Team and the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM).  He has run workshops at national, regional and local conferences and has undertaken and overseen numerous research projects.

Specialism SCIENCE

Rob has been Assistant Headteacher at St Boniface’s College for the last five years.  He is director of the Science and Maths specialism within the school and also has responsibilities for Assessment and Key Stage Four.  Previously he was Head of Science for five year.  Rob’s teaching and leadership has been graded as outstanding by Ofsted.


Jon is Assistant Principal, Director of Performance at Teignmouth Community School having joined the school in September 2000 as a head of the ICT Faculty.  He joined the senior leadership in 2003 as the AP responsible for Assessment and Strategic school ICT development.  Jon’s current role encompasses the performance of all students and teachers from early years through to 6th form (TCS is a through school 3-19 academy).

In the last four years Teignmouth Community School has moved from 75th centile CVA 990 to 7th centile VA 1022 and increased the 5 x A*-C including EN&MA from 46% to 63% (10% above FFT D for the last 2 years).


Sarah is Director of Science at Kingsbridge Community College. Sarah has been in this role for 2 years and prior to this was Head of Science at a school in London. Sarah leads a diverse team in a very successful science department with large numbers of students studying GCSE Science and A Level Science subjects. Sarah is an accredited facilitator of the Outstanding and Improving Teacher Programmes and has had extensive experience of providing school to school support in Devon and the London areas.
